What is therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic massage was developed to help ease pain and promote relaxation. Research has shown that it is also an effective treatment to combat the stresses of today’s society. It promotes good circulation which, when received regularly maintains muscular integrity and allows the mind to drop into a self-healing state.
Range of motion in the joints can be improved by regular massage, resulting in less pain and fatigue. Ideal for rehabilitation.
Are there any medical conditions that make massage inadvisable?
Yes. That’s why we ask you to fill out a health history form. It is very important that you inform your therapist of any health problems or medications you are taking.
Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable.
How will I feel after the massage?
You should feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. People often experience increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water immediately afterwards to cleanse.
Why certified practitioners?
Because whether you’re visiting a massage therapist for relaxation, rehabilitation or rejuvenation, you deserve to be treated by a practitioner who is both skilled and knowledgeable. And that’s what the NCBTMB credential stands for – a commitment to excellence. As a condition of membership, NCMTB verifies the training and credentials of every one of its practitioners.
